High School

High School Youth Group
Sundays at 6:00 – 8:00 PM

Almost every Sunday night, high school students gather in the youth room to play games, read scripture, and talk about their lives.  Fun, service, and study make this youth group a place where high schoolers can grow.  Topics change from week to week. What doesn’t change is our desire to make new friends, laugh a lot, and figure out our place in the world.  (Some of our recent events include: spending the night in cardboard boxes learning about the difficulties of being homeless, talking about the meaning of baptism, and covering our faces in shaving cream before attacking one another with water guns.)  In addition to our weekly meetings, we have lock-ins, retreats, and a summer mission trip!  If you want to find our more information, you can contact Rob Ross (under the contact button at the top – he’s the one posing with his dog Pete in the woods!)  He’d love to answer any questions you have about the group (Rob would, not Pete).  To find out what the youth have done recently, just click the Youth News button at the top.

Confirmation Class
Once students reach the 9th grade, they have the opportunity to make a public profession of faith and join the church (the church being both the global movement of people who are trying to follow Christ and also the group of people who gather at 110 E Brookhaven Rd on Sundays).  The Confirmation and Commissioning Journey (AKA Confirmation Class) is a three month course led by Pastor Suzan and Pastor Rob, intended to help students as they discern whether they are ready to take this step.  Along the way, students will think deeply, share about their lives, and grow in their faith and understanding.  The course meets on Wednesday nights, January-May (with a few exceptions).  The class is open to all 9th grade students, and any students in 10th-12th grades who have not participated in a previous Confirmation and Commissioning Journey at WPC.  If you would like to sign up for this class (or your teenager would like to sign up), please e-mail or call Pastor Rob (you can find his info on the contacts page).

Worship leadership, committee participation and teaching opportunities are available to all High School youth who are interested in serving.  Every year our youth participate in the Christmas Toy Delivery that takes place in the City of Chester, throw a Halloween Party for elementary students in a low-income after-school program, and take a week-long summer mission trip.

A special P.S. from Rob:
Some students have asked me if they have to believe everything the church stands for and be ready to join up before they can join the youth group or CCJ.  You do not!  Being a part of either of these groups doesn’t mean that you think Presbyterians have it all together (or that you even know what Presbyterians believe!)  It doesn’t even mean that you know what you believe!  What it means is that you are interested in trying to find out.  Being a Christian is a journey of faith and knowledge – a journey that lasts your whole life.  It is a journey that we take together, but it is also a very personal journey – and at WPC, we encourage you to think deeply, and speak honestly about what you believe…and what you don’t.  And whatever we believe, we stick together as we continue to grow in understanding and in faith.  If that sounds like a journey that you or someone you love wants to take, give me a call and let’s talk it over.  My office number is 610-566-1644 ext 13.  If you prefer e-mail, my address is rob@wallingfordpres.org.  I hope to talk with you soon!  –  Pastor Rob
