Children in Worship

During the school year (the Sunday after Labor Day through the Sunday before Memorial Day), we have worship services at 9:30 and 11:00 am. Children of any age are welcome to join us in worship at either of these worship services. In each service, we sing hymns, pray aloud and silently, and listen to a sermon. On the first Sunday of the month, we share communion together, with juice and bread. Children are welcome to participate in communion once their parents think they are ready. About 15 minutes into the 9:30 service, one of the pastors invites the elementary aged children to the front of the sanctuary for a short lesson. (We call this time “Time with Young Disciples.”) Afterwards, elementary aged children are invited downstairs for Sunday school for the remainder of the service. For more information on Sunday school, see our Sunday school page, here. We know that children sometimes need to move and make noise more than adults do. But that’s okay…in fact, it’s one of the things we love about children! If your child is having a hard time in worship, you can talk softly to them, rock them, or even play tic tac toe on the bulletin with them (we all did it as children too!). We believe that even at those times, children are learning about who they are and who God is, and we are glad to have them learning with us. If you feel more comfortable taking your child out of the sanctuary for a moment, you can exit at the back of the sanctuary there is a room in the back that is wired for sound and would give you a chance to continue to participate in the service while your child calms down.

If you have other questions about your children in worship, please feel free to contact Pastor Rob Ross at 610-566-1644 ext 13 or rob@wallingfordpres.org. He is always happy to talk.
