The Music Ministry at WPC strives to be an open and inclusive ministry, welcoming to all who have the desire in their hearts to sing and make music. We believe that music can be both prayer and praise, both supplication and thanksgiving, and that music is an integral part of our worship, in the communal hymns we sing, the joyful ringing of bells, the lovely voices of children singing, the thoughtful offering of choir anthems, and in the sounds of trumpet, violin, flute, and organ.
If you feel a song in your heart, you are invited to consider participating in any of the offerings of the Music Ministry. Details of our choirs and groups are listed below; for more information or to consider joining, contact Music Director Liz Braden at email@example.com.
Thursdays from 7:30-9:00 PM in the choir room.
The Chancel Choir is open to all adults and high school youth. We meet every Thursday night, and sing every Sunday morning. In addition to preparing weekly anthems, the Chancel Choir also prepares for special musical events throughout the church year: the annual Messiah Sing; Christmas Eve Lessons & Carols service; Maundy Thursday Tennebrae service; Music Appreciation Sunday.
Thursdays from 6:30-7:30 PM in the choir room.
The Bell Choir is open to all adults and youth grades 7 and up. We meet every Thursday night and learn music that we offer in worship about one Sunday a month. The Bell Choir also participates in special services, including Christmas Eve and Music Appreciation Sunday. Knowledge of reading music is helpful, though not required. Openings occur in the bell choir several times a year, if you are interested contact Liz Braden for more information.
Vocal & Instrumental Solos
Various times throughout the year.
WPC is blessed with many gifted singers and instrumentalists, and we invite you to share your talents by singing or playing during morning worship. Throughout the summer, while most of our choirs take a break, our weekly anthems are provided by soloists; at times during the church year, especially Advent, Christmas, and Easter we also add to our worship with vocal and instrumental music. Watch for announcements in bulletins and newsletters calling for soloists, or contact Liz Braden to express your interest. Children, youth, and adults are all welcome and encouraged to participate in this way.
