A community where all who seek God are welcome

Children

First Time Visitors to Wallingford Presbyterian Church

Many people first experience WPC on Sunday morning. Sunday morning worship is at 10 AM. Each service lasts about one hour.  Children of all ages are always welcome in worship (see our Children in Worship  page), and we are happy for you to keep your children with you during any of the services. If you prefer, we also offer childcare and Sunday School, and would love to have your children participate.  To learn more about Sunday School and child care, click here.

Below you will find more information on childcare and Sunday School, based upon your child’s age:

0 to 18 months old
Children begin learning about God and themselves almost as soon as they are born. Am I safe? Am I loved? Are my needs important to others?  These are theological as well as practical questions, and our nursery staff will help children answer them through their loving attention.  Childcare is provided from 9 am to 12:30 pm every Sunday.  During worship, our infants (0-18 months) and toddlers (18 months-3 years old) are in one large classroom downstairs.  Two toddler teachers and two infant nursery staff people work together in the same room.

Our staff is happy to change diapers, give children a bottle, or give kids snacks from home.  Please bring a diaper bag with all that your child will need for the hour.  If this will be your child’s first time in the nursery, please plan to come a few minutes early so you can share any useful information with our nursery staff.

The infant/toddler room is downstairs in the Education Wing.  Enter the building through the wooden, double doors.  Then, head down the stairs by a mural with animals and people on it. The room is halfway down the hall on the right.

19 months-3 years old

Our Toddler Sunday School class meets during 10:00 worship. Parents can drop off their children any time after 9:45, on their way to worship  and pick up their children after worship.  (The kids will want to head upstairs to coffee hour, anyway, since that is where the cookies are!)  During Sunday School, the toddlers and the infants are in the same room, with two toddler teachers and one nursery staff person working together.

To reach the infant/toddler room, enter the building through the wooden, double doors. Then, descend the stairs by a mural with animals and people on it. The infant/toddler room is the fourth door on your right.

4-5 years old
Our 4-5 year old Sunday School class meets during 10 AM worship. Parents can drop off their children any time after 9:45, on their way to worship and pick up their children after worship.  (The kids will want to head upstairs to coffee hour, anyway, since that is where the cookies are!)

To reach the 4-5 year old Sunday School room, enter the building through the wooden, double doors. Then, descend the stairs by a mural with animals and people on it. The 4-5 year old room is the last door on your right.

We also provide childcare during the 11 AM service for children birth to 5 years old.  That childcare takes place in the toddler room.  (Right next to the 4-5 year old Sunday School class.)

1st or 2nd grade
Our 1st-2nd grade Sunday school class meets during 10AM worship. All elementary-aged (1st-5th grade) children begin in the sanctuary with their parents. They stay in worship for a welcome and a hymn. Then, they are invited up to the front of the sanctuary for a short conversation with one of the pastors. (We call this the Time with Young Disciples.)  After this, their Sunday School teachers lead them downstairs for Sunday school.

After the worship service, parents can pick up their children in their classroom downstairs. Exit the front of the sanctuary, and descend the stairs immediately to your right. At the bottom of the stairs, turn right, and follow the hallway nearly to its end. The 1st-2nd grade classroom is about halfway down the hall on the right.

After 10 AM worship, you and your children are welcome to gather for fellowship (and, as importantly, cookies) in fellowship hall, back upstairs.

3rd-5th grade
Our 3rd-5th grade Sunday school class meets during 10 AM worship. All elementary aged (1st-5th grade) children begin in the sanctuary with their parents. They stay in worship for a welcome and a hymn.  Then, they are invited up to the front of the sanctuary for a short conversation with one of the pastors. (We call this the Time with Young Disciples.)  After this, they are guided downstairs for Sunday school.

After the worship service, you will find your children in their classroom downstairs. Exit the front of the sanctuary, and descend the stairs immediately to your right. At the bottom of the stairs, turn right, and follow the hallway nearly to its end. The 3rd-5th grade classroom is the final door on your left.

After worship, you and your children are welcome to gather for fellowship (and, as importantly, cookies) in fellowship hall, back upstairs.
