A community where all who seek God are welcome

Kids in Worship

Children and Youth in Worship

Throughout the year, our worship service begins at 10 am.  Children and youth of any age are welcome to join us in worship any Sunday. In each service, we sing hymns, pray aloud and silently, and listen to a sermon.

Communion

On the first Sunday of the month, we share communion together, with juice and bread. Children and youth are welcome to participate in communion once their parents think they are ready.  (The church and pastors trust parents to decide on when their child is ready.  Pastors are happy to talk with parents and children about communion – so feel free to email them with questions.)

Infants

Parents of infants have a couple of options when they come to worship.

Option one: parents can bring their infants with them to worship.  We regularly have infant car seats in the pews next to parents, and we are happy to have infants with us in worship.  We know that infants sometimes make more noise than adults do.  But that’s okay…in fact, it’s one of the things we love about them!  If your infant is having a hard time in worship, feel free to talk softly to them, rock them, or walk in the back with them. We believe that even at those times, children are learning about who they are and who God is, and we are glad to have them learning with us. If you feel more comfortable taking your child out of the sanctuary for a moment, or if your child needs to nurse or have her diaper changed, you can exit at the back of the sanctuary.  There is a room in the back that is wired for sound and would give you a chance to continue to participate in the service while you attend to your child’s needs.

Option two: parents can leave their infants in our church nursery.  We have a nursery for children under 18 month old, which is open from 8:45-11:30 on Sunday mornings, and is a loving and safe place for them.  You can find out more about the nursery here.

If you have other questions about your children in worship, please feel free to contact Pastor Rob Ross at 610-566-1644 ext 13 or rob@wallingfordpres.org. He is always happy to talk, (and with 3 young children of his own, he is always happy to empathize!)

Toddlers/Pre-K kids

We have Sunday School for 18 month olds through 5 year olds during worship.  Parents can drop their children off at Sunday School on the way to worship and pick their children up after worship.  You can find out more information about Sunday School here.

If you prefer, your child is welcome to stay with you in worship.   As you enter the sanctuary, the ushers will offer you a bulletin and offer your child a children’s bulletin and a packet of crayons.  They are welcome to use these throughout the service.

We know that children sometimes need to move and make noise more than adults do.  But that’s okay…in fact, it’s one of the things we love about children!  If your child is having a hard time in worship, you can talk softly to them, rock them, or even play tic tac toe on the bulletin with them (we all did it as children too!). We believe that even at those times, children are learning about who they are and who God is, and we are glad to have them learning with us.

Elementary (1st-5th grade)

Elementary Sunday School takes place during the final 2/3rds of the 10 am worship service.  All elementary-aged (1st-5th grade) children begin in the sanctuary with their parents. They stay in worship for announcements, the opening hymn (song), a few prayers, and a scripture reading. Then, they are invited up to the front of the sanctuary for a short conversation with one of the pastors. (We call this the Time with Young Disciples.)  After this, their Sunday School teachers lead them downstairs for Sunday school.  You can find out more about Sunday School here.
