Valentine’s Cupcake Decorating – Friday, February 10

Outreach Council will be hosting a valentine’s cupcake decorating class on Friday, February 10 from 6:30 to 8 PM. Pizza will be served at 6:30 followed by decorating valentine cupcakes led by Sharon Kaminski. This event is designed for participation by parent or parents and child or children. Each parent/child combination will decorate 6 cupcakes. Three will be to take home or give to a favorite valentine. Three will be given to CityTeam Ministries or Chester Eastside Ministries in Chester. The cost of the evening will be $5 per parent child combination. Family Pizza and Game Night – January 28

Outreach council is sponsoring a Family Pizza and Game Night on Saturday, January 28 from 5 – 8 PM. Everyone is welcome. Bring a game, bring a friend, bring a relative or come alone. Book Look

The Book Look discussion group is still alive and well. For the month of August, we will be discussing “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” from C.S. Lewis’ Tales of Narnia. This book appeals to young and old. If you are a parent and want to consider this book for your children, come out to the Book Look on Tuesday, August 16 at 7:30 to discuss “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”. If you think your children would like to participate in the discussion, bring them along. Vacation Bible Camp July 24 – 29

VBC CAMPERS – Our Vacation Bible Camp, RENEW: THE GREEN VBC, will run from Sunday, July 24th to Friday, July 29th, from 6-8 pm. All children (4 year olds to graduated 5th graders) are invited to participate with us. This year, at RENEW: THE GREEN VBS, campers will learn important truths about God, faith, and stewardship of God’s creation. Along the way, campers will sow their own seeds in pots, play exciting games, create new things from recycled materials, sing catchy songs, learn about environmental stewardship and dig deeper into The Parable of the Sower. The program costs $10/camper, and scholarships are available to those who need them. If you would like to register a child, you can find the registration form online, in Fellowship Hall or outside the church office.

Fundraising for the high school trip to Montreat, NC

This year, several of our high school students will be traveling to Montreat, NC for a week of worship, play and reflection. This is our third year going, and the trip has been a powerful experience for kids each year. However, it is also an expensive trip (more than $700 per student). In order to fund the trip, we are doing some summer fund raising, and need your help. There are two ways you can help:

YOUTH CAR WASH: On Sunday, June 19, the youth will hold a car wash immediately following the 10 AM service. The car will take place in the commuter parking lot. You will have the opportunity to reserve a space in the car wash by parking your car in that lot on your way to worship. Immediately following worship, the kids will begin their car wash by washing all the cars in the commuter lot. By the time you have had a cookie and a cup of coffee during coffee hour, your car should be ready to go. The kids will be accepting donations for their work, and all proceeds will go towards their upcoming trip to Montreat.
SPONSOR A TRIPPER: FOR $75, you can sponsor one of the trip participants. To sponsor a tripper, click on the Donate button under Sponsor a High School…..on the right side of this site, or consult the bulletin board outside the Reception Room.

Cupcake Decorating (A chance to help the homeless)

On Friday, May 13, from 6:30 to 8 PM, we will be hosting a workshop to teach children how to decorate cupcakes and also to give them an appreciation of what it is like to be a homeless person and/or an addict. Half of the cupcakes that the children decorate will be donated to The CityTeam shelter in Chester. Helping us throughout the evening will be several graduates of CityTeam. Children will work with a parent to decorate the cupcakes under the direction of an expert baker. Space is limited and registration is required. Please use the on-line form, or call the office (610-566-1644, ext. 0) to register. Prior to beginning the decorating, we will have a pizza dinner.

Kids and TV, the internet, cell phones, and video games

Dr. Amy Franzini of Widener University gave a presentation to parents on their role in the use of TV, the internet, cell phones and video games on Friday, May 1. Her emphasis was on the role of parents (high level of involvement) in using the media as a means of engagement in a non-threatening way and also as a mechanism for boundary setting. She highly recommended two books for parents:

How much TV is too much? Is it OK to let my kids play video games? Should I let me first grader have a cell phone? Do you need answers to questions like this?

Come out and lister to Dr. Amy Franzini of Widener University’s Communications Department as she addresses parents on the subject of kids and TV, the internet, cell phones, and video games. “Too often we see the media world as something that can only hurt our children,” Franzini says. In reality, “the media can be just as helpful as hurtful for kids. It really comes down to the parents and the way they guide their children through the media landscape.”

There will be a discussion and light refreshments following the presentation.

Sprouts End of Year Picnic – May 20 from 6 – 8 PM

For our end-of-the-year Sprouts, we’ll take a trip to the Tyler Arboretum on May 20th from 6 – 8 pm. We’ll have a picnic dinner, go on a hike, and learn about the Native Americans that lived in this area before we did. Parents can drop their kids off and pick their kids up at the church. It will be a great way to end the year!

Sprouts is a monthly fellowship group for 1^st-5^th grade students. All students are welcome to attend. There is no charge for Sprouts, and dinner and other needed supplies are always included in the evening.
