Emergency Red Cross Blood Drive – Tuesday, January 3 from 2 – 8 PM

The American Red Cross contacted us recently as they are in desperate need of blood. WPC has responded by hosting an emergency donation session from 2 – 8 PM on Tuesday, January 3, just a short time for now. If you can donate and you want to sign up for a time, you can call Tom Erickson at 610-565-8458, or you can call the Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS. Even if you don’t sign up, walk-ins are always welcome.

CityTeam Christmas Toy Delivery

Volunteers are needed to deliver toys for CityTeam. This is a very rewarding opportunity to do something for the community and make many people, including you, feel good. The date is Saturday, December 17, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Toys are picked up at the St. James Center, 215 E 21st St, Chester, PA. Teams of two people are suggested. In order to volunteer on line, you will need to create an account at CityTeam. The link shown below will take you to the initial page. The last item on the list is the toy delivery. Click on Volunteer and follow the instructions. When you get to the page that asks with what group are you associated, ignore the page and click on Continue (or Next, or Proceed).

Presbytery Christmas Wish List

There are a multitude of volunteer opportunities and other opportunities for you to share the peace, love, hope, and joy of Jesus Christ during the upcoming Advent, and Christmas season.

The Rev. Schaunel Steinnagel, Hunger Action Enabler for the Presbytery of Philadelphia, has compiled a list of the volunteer needs and requests for Christmas gifts and donations of warm clothing for children and youth in the Philadelphia area.

Warm the hearts of others in our neighborhoods and in our city this Christmas by sharing your time and resources with those who have less.

Fall Clean Up Part II

The Trustees need help with a second Saturday of fall clean up on November 19 from 9 AM to noon. Because the leaves have stayed on the trees longer than usual, we have scheduled a second Saturday of leaf clean up. Refreshments will be served. Please bring rakes, tarps, leaf blowers, gloves, clippers, garden carts or wheelbarrows, extension cords, your big smiles and anything else that might help with cleaning up the leaves, sticks, etc.

Thanksgiving Food Basket Prep and Delivery

The Deacons will be meeting at the church on Saturday, November 19 at 8:30 AM to prepare and deliver food baskets for Thanksgiving. Everyone is encouraged to join the Deacons on Saturday to help fill the baskets and deliver them to needy families in the area. Donations of turkeys and home-baked pies are needed. Advent Festival Help Needed

On the afternoon of December 4, we will be decorating the church for Advent and Christmas. The whole church is invited to help in the decorating and we need two or three people who are willing to lead it. These two or three people will plan the decorations in consultation with Pastor Rob and the worship council, make sure that all the decorating supplies are ready to go by the afternoon of the 4th and direct the volunteers who show up to decorate. Social Gathering

Before the stress (and joy) of the holidays are upon us, let’s get together and enjoy each others’ company in this time of caring and sharing!! Patty Bonnano and Kirk Soxman have offered to host a social get-together at their home, 5 Brookside Road, Wallingford, on Saturday, November 12 starting at 6:30 PM. Please join us in this fellowship by bringing an appetizer and favorite beverage to share. We would also like to make a collection of canned goods to take to Philabundance to assist in their Thanksgiving distribution. Please bring any canned goods you would like to donate and Patty and Kirk will make sure they are forwarded to needy families in the community. No RSVP required….see you there!

Building One Pennsylvania Meeting – October 27

Suburbs Project, a non-partisan group seeking regional solutions to the housing,education, transportation, and infrastructure challenges that face our region. According to the Pennsylvania Economy League, 39 Pennsylvania cities, 228 boroughs, and 8 first class townships are in the worst stage of municipal decline. Those of us who have volunteered in Chester know of these conditions first hand. Hundreds of other Pennsylvania communities are not far behind.
First Suburbs is participating in a statewide forum at 11:30-1:00 pm on Thursday, October 27 in Lancaster, PA, convened by Building One Pennsylvania.unveil an action agenda to the public, to state and federal lawmakers, and to the White House.U.S. HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan is a confirmed guest, as are State Senators Ted Erickson (R-Delaware) and Lloyd Smucker (R-Lancaster). Several hundred local leaders from a wide varietyof groups, including faith-based organizations, from across the state are attending this freeevent.

A Few Good Folk Needed

One of the early tasks of the Interim Time is for the session to name a “Transition Team.” This group of six people will work with the interim pastor to guide the congregation and its leadership through a discernment process and time of evaluation and reflection on where God is calling the church to go on the next steps of the congregation’s journey of faith. The members of this team will be working together over the next 4– 6 months. They will need to be people who are interested in pulling information together; who are good listeners, are good organizers, are willing to take on this short term task, and are open to the guidance of the Holy spirit. This team’s work “will provide a picture of who we are, whose we are, and where God is calling us as a community of faith. Please note that the Transition Team is not the Pastor Nominating Committee, but rather will lay the groundwork for that committee, and will complete its work before the Pastor Nominating Committee is elected by the congregation. If you are interested in serving as a member of the Transition Team, or know someone you think would serve well in that role, please contact Pastor Paul or Walt Kaminski.
