Results: Rise Against Hunger – Sunday, April 30

Rise Against HungerThank you…to the sixty plus volunteers who helped make the April 30th meal pack out event an outstanding success. In just under two hours, the crew packed 12,528 meals (58 cases of 36 packets of six meals each) and had a ton of fun doing it. Delighted to see both the long list of regulars and a healthy list of new faces among the crew. Just prior to the pack out, the crew heard Rise Against Hunger project leader, Latoya Gillyard, talked about her trip to Nicaragua and the incredible impact delivering the meals we pack through the schools and orphanages has on the lives of the children and their families. She relayed a request from those who receive these meals for all of us to pray for them as they move through their lives. She ended with a description of the meals we pack as having five ingredients: a sachet with 23 vegetable-based vitamins and minerals, soy protein, dried vegetables, rise, and Love. Latoya asked us to smile while we worked and send that love and our prayers along with the meals. Given the enthusiastic sing-a-long with the music and the multiple interpretative dances that broke out during the event, it seems we honored Latoya’s request very nicely. Special thanks to Pat Tillson, Bob Kenworthy, Kevin…Kelly…and Lauren Montague for assisting David Rudd and Latoya with the load in. Another special thanks to the lunch crew led by Sallie Anderson and Evan Ernest including Barbara Meahl, Kathy Mongon, and Sallie Clyde. Final thank you to the dozens of folks who pitched for the tear down, clean-up, put away, and load out which went very smoothly. This was our sixth pack out since the fall of 2014 and brings the total meal count from WPC to 69,552 meals. The Mission and Service Committee thanks on behalf of this important part of the Hunger Ministry of our Church.
