CHRISTMAS PAGEANT & CHRISTMAS EVE FAMILY SERVICE, 5:00 PM 12/24/14
Children and youth of all ages are invited to participate in this year’s Christmas Pageant, which will be performed as part of the Family Service on Christmas Eve at 5:00 PM. Those of you who have participated over the last few years know that our simple but beautiful Christmas Pageant is a chance for the children to be involved in the telling of the Christmas story, and I hope that many of you and your families will be able to participate.
There will be only ONE rehearsal to prepare for the pageant. That rehearsal will be on Tuesday December 23, from 4:00-6:30 PM. At that rehearsal the children will be able to select what part they’d like to play: angels, shepherds, sheep, the Wise Men, even some stable animals. While there will only be one Mary and one Joseph (usually selected from the older children), we can accommodate as many angels, shepherds, etc. as we have. At the practice time, every part will learn when they come up front, where they stand, etc. There are no lines for the children, and minimal actions. We’ve purposely designed a minimal rehearsal type of pageant to encourage the broadest participation possible. Children from age 4 and up are invited to participate. If you have children younger than four that would like to be involved, that is possible, but will likely require that at least one parent volunteer to also be costumed to help. But, we would love to have an adult shepherd or two bringing along some baby lambs! We’d like to have everyone who wants to participate able to do so. Childcare will be available for infants and toddlers not participating in the pageant during the rehearsal. If you work and would need transportation for your child or children to the rehearsal on 12/23 please let Pastor Rob or Liz Braden know and we can help arrange that. Dinner will be provided as part of the 12/23 rehearsal for everyone in your family who attends the practice.
In addition to the “one and done” rehearsal, there is an opportunity for the children to also participate in a Christmas Eve Children’s Chorus. For those children interested in doing this, we’ll practice three times: Sundays 12/7, 12/14, and 12/21 from 9:00-9:45 AM. During these Sundaymorning times, we’ll practice the Christmas Carols that will be sung at the pageant and we’ll also learn one or two songs to perform as part of the service. Just like the children’s choir last winter and spring, this group will be for ages 4-10 (though if you have someone slightly younger or slightly older who wants to participate let us know and we’ll see what we can work out). Children do NOT have to participate in the Children’s Choir to be in the pageant, though everyone in the choir will be in the pageant, and therefore will also need to be at the rehearsal on 12/23.
