Widener University Professor, Dr. Amy Franzini will talk to area parents at Wallingford Presbyterian Church from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 1st.

The focus of her presentation is: “Helping Parents use the Media to Help their Kids: From little ones to adolescents.” She will be addressing TV, the internet, cell phones, and video games.” “Too often we see the media world as something that can only hurt our children,” Franzini says. In reality, “the media can be just as helpful as hurtful for kids. It really comes down to the parents and the way they guide their children through the media landscape.”

Dr. Franzini has a Ph.D. from Temple University in Mass Media and Communication. Her work has been published in the Encyclopedia of International Media and Communications, the National Social Science Journal, Communication Teacher and the Journal of Sex Research. She recently presented and article on “Children and Media Use in Parenting Magazines” at a conference in Virginia.

Dr. Franzini is also mother of two young media consumers herself. She has two sons, Jake and Max. She and her husband Steve live in Drexel Hill.

The talk is free and open to the public. Free child-care will be provided for those who call the church office at 610-566-1644 or register on-line.
