A community where all who seek God are welcome

UN Tour & Visit to the Presbyterian UN Office in New York City – May 11

Sponsored and subsidized by Presbytery’s Peacemaking Committee, this day-long Seminar will include an introduction to our Church’s work at the UN, with presentations by experts in the UN community and a tour of the UN Headquarters, together with round-trip transportation, lunch and worship at the Church Center for the UN.

Here’s an opportunity to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program and our affirmation that this is “the Believer’s Calling” (Matthew 5), in the home, in the community, within our country, and among the nations.  Located at the Church Center for the UN, the Presbyterian Church (USA) conducts a mission among other denominations, just across the Plaza from UN Headquarters.

Our host for the day will be Jessica Hawkinson, Associate for International Relations and Education at our UN Office.  A member of the Wallingford Church, where her mother, the Rev. Suzan Hawkinson, is Pastor, Jessica is a recent graduate of Presbyterian-related Macalester College in St. Paul, MN.  Supported by a grant from our Presbytery’s Paul Hopkins Fund, she was a member of a General Assembly fact-finding tour of the Middle East last fall.  She is preparing to enter Princeton Seminary this year.  Our visit to New York will be a great opportunity to observe the work of both the UN and our Presbyterian presence there, through the eyes of one of our own young people.

The day’s theme: “Dry Land, Living Stones” will explore some of the many complex challenges which face us in the world today, with a view to inspire, equip and connect all who attend for service as global disciples.

The 47-passenger tour bus will depart from the Church on the Mall at 8:00 a.m. and will return by 8:00 p.m.  For reservations ($50), please send a check payable to the Presbytery of Philadelphia by May 10, to Betsey Radcliffe, Presbytery House, 2200 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA  19103.  With ample but limited space, it would be wise to make your reservation as soon as possible.
